Brice installed 14 new GFE (Government Furnished Equipment) USA Coil Air-cooled Heat Exchanger (ACHE) systems and associated piping, control valves, wiring and sensors that will eventually replace the legacy ACHES at Eareckson Air Station (EAS). The ACHEs are installed as part of the radar cooling system. Brice designed the plumbing and electrical systems for the installation that consisted of corrosion resistant materials including piping, electrical, connections, concrete, stands, etc. In addition, we installed the units to withstand wind gusts of up to 140 mph, and the maximum predicted seismic hazard for Shemya Island. To do this, we increased the size and quantity of the steel used, and designed cross-bracing.
For the plumbing system, we performed flow balance, testing and certification, as well as temperature and pressure drop testing to characterize the performance of each unit and provided a Test and Balance Report. Other deliverables included as-built drawings, inventory lists and installation/test checklists for installed equipment; technical updates to the latest Real Property Installed Equipment Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Systems Manual, CD108 S2 and the COBRA DANE Facilities Installation Drawings; System Safety Hazard Analysis Report; Acceptance Test Plan and Acceptance Test Procedure; and maintenance instructions. We also conducted on-the-job training for COBRA DANE system trainers.
