Client: Wood PLC in support of US Air Force 611 CES and AFCEC
Location: Wake Island
Value: $2,314,490
Completion Year: 2019
Scope of Work:
- Site/Civil Work
- Construct Man Camps
- As Built Surveys
Brice is performing site civil work in support of Wood PLC’s prime contract to upgrade electrical infrastructure and install a 750-kilowatt solar array on Wake Island Airfield. Specifically, Brice is installing 2-3 miles of new primary conduit, up to ½ mile of secondary conduit, and 208 vaults and pads. We will also establish a 39-person man camp consisting of 16, 40-ft containers, perform site clearing and grading of the two-acre solar farm, as well as demolition/removal of old transformers, transformer pads, and conduit. Brice is providing labor, heavy equipment, and tools to execute the work.
Site conditions on Wake Island are challenging at times. Brice is installing the conduit at a minimum of 32 inches below ground surface within coral sands which can be difficult to excavate. In addition, there is minimal historic documentation available to locate and work in and around existing utilities. We coordinate daily with Wood PLC, the Air Force and the BOS contractor to avoid disruptions to existing utilities, coordinate utility outages when needed, and ensure minimal impact to ongoing daily operations.
Upon completion of the scope of work, Brice will perform as built surveys using an RTK survey system.
