Brice performed the design-build construction of the Water Distribution System on Wake Island. The water distribution had been deteriorating after years of use and from the salt corrosion typical of island environments.
Our design work consisted of the review of a 100% design provided by the client. Working with our engineer of record, we identified design upgrades required to achieve the client’s project goals and objectives, i.e. discrepancies arose between the timing of the 100% design versus current conditions.
In 2017, Brice began repairs and upgrades to the piping system to provide more water volume and hydrants for emergency fire suppression. The current system was undersized and deteriorated and had known water loss. We installed nearly 35,000 linear feet of pipe with 59 services (buildings supplied with water via new curb stop, backflow preventer, and associated valves), 35 fire hydrants, and completed the construction of the new 20’ x 30’ pump house.
In 2018, we completed the upgrades to the water distribution system. We replaced the main pump #3 with an in-line Triplex Pump Package and two 75 hp fire pumps to centralize water system maintenance into one pump house; and abandon the booster pump stations and original pump house.
